With the advancement in ICT-enabled devices, mobile users become the content creators, and hence information flow will become naturally evolve toward more symmetry and peer-to-peer. In addition, the last hop to the end user, a person or device, is increasingly being delivered wirelessly. An intelligent network, which we term it cognitive network, that is aware of its environment, capabilities, resource constraints; manages to alter its behaviour independently based on its previous experience and its current environment; capable of performing the complex adaptation strategies accordingly; and finally can facilitate efficient content distribution would be greatly desired. This project aims to achieve efficient information delivery across heterogeneous networks, through designing practical cross-layer algorithms that combines network coding and cognitive radio network in an integrated manner for various ICT-enabled devices and services.
